Safeen Dizayee highlighted the strength of relations between Erbil and Ankara following high-level meetings in Istanbul between Masrour Barzani and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Dizayee said President Erdoğan showed deep respect by personally escorting Prime Minister Barzani after their talks in Istanbul. He described the gesture as a reflection of the strong political relationship between Türkiye and the Kurdistan Region.
The discussions focused on expanding cooperation in energy, security, trade, and infrastructure projects. Officials from both sides also reviewed broader regional developments and political changes in Iraq.
According to Dizayee, Erbil and Ankara continue to strengthen strategic coordination in several sectors. He added that both governments share common interests in regional stability and economic development.
A major topic during the talks involved the strategic Development Road project. The initiative aims to connect Gulf countries, Iraq, the Kurdistan Region, and Europe through Türkiye using a large transportation and railway corridor.
Officials believe the project could transform the region into a major trade and transit hub linking Asian and European markets.
Security cooperation also remained a key focus during the meetings. Both sides discussed regional instability and the importance of continued coordination against security threats.
In addition, the talks addressed ongoing political developments in Baghdad and efforts to form Iraq’s next federal government.
Dizayee stressed that relations between Erbil and Ankara have continued to develop in recent years through regular diplomatic engagement and economic cooperation.
The meetings in Istanbul reflected broader efforts by both sides to deepen partnerships and maintain political dialogue during a period of regional uncertainty.
