A parliamentary delegation from the Kurdistan Democratic Party visited Mosul on Wednesday to strengthen regional cooperation. Parliamentary bloc leader Shakhawan Abdullah led the official delegation during the high-level political visit to Nineveh Governorate.
Additionally, Abdullah highlighted Iraq’s pressing economic challenges while reaffirming Erbil’s full support for local governance initiatives. Consequently, both sides emphasized the urgent need for stronger political coordination to protect essential economic interests.
During a joint news conference, Abdullah delivered warm greetings from KDP President Masoud Barzani to local administrators. Furthermore, he described Nineveh Governorate as a strategic region with immense historical importance for the political party.
He also noted that Mosul had overcome severe destruction following the devastating Islamic State occupation. Therefore, strong administrative leadership helped local authorities rebuild damaged infrastructure and restore key municipal services.
Turning to national issues, Abdullah linked Iraq’s current economic struggles directly to broader Middle Eastern conflicts. Specifically, regional tensions continue to disrupt critical oil shipping routes through the vital Strait of Hormuz.
Because oil exports generate a significant share of state revenues, local administrations must actively support federal economic recovery programs. Meanwhile, sustained economic progress in Mosul could create positive financial effects across the neighboring Kurdistan Region.
Nineveh Governor Abdulqader al-Dakhil welcomed the visiting officials and praised Erbil for providing continuous support. Moreover, the governor stressed that Mosul currently maintains stable security conditions for its diverse communities. He explained that local governments must support federal revenue efforts while expanding cross-regional economic cooperation. In addition, deep social and commercial ties continue to connect communities across Nineveh and the Kurdistan Region.
Officials from both sides pledged to maintain close security coordination and expand economic partnerships. Furthermore, many Mosul residents currently maintain homes and business operations within the stable Kurdistan Region. Similarly, Kurdish citizens have returned to their ancestral properties throughout Mosul in recent years. Ultimately, the meeting underscores a growing political commitment to shared regional stability and sustainable development.
