Special Voting Turnout Reaches 82% Nationwide, Kurdistan Leads with Record Numbers

Turnout for Iraq’s special voting phase in the parliamentary elections reached 82% nationwide, reflecting strong engagement among security forces, health workers, and internally displaced persons. However, the Kurdistan Region once again recorded some of the highest participation rates in the entire country.

Duhok topped the list with a remarkable 98.19% turnout, followed closely by Sulaimani at 98.16% and Erbil at 97.92%. Election officials praised the organization and discipline of voters across the Region, describing the process as efficient and transparent.

Throughout the day, polling centers across Iraq witnessed long lines of uniformed personnel and other eligible groups eager to cast their ballots ahead of the general voting day. The Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) confirmed that all equipment functioned smoothly, and results are being verified digitally through secure barcode systems.

Observers said the high turnout in the Kurdistan Region demonstrates citizens’ strong trust in the democratic process and their desire to influence Iraq’s political direction. Meanwhile, national participation levels showed steady improvement compared to previous elections, indicating a growing sense of responsibility among voters.

As Iraq prepares for the main voting phase, officials expect the enthusiasm shown during special voting to carry over, ensuring a vibrant and competitive election across the country.
