ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Omer Celik, spokesperson for Turkey’s Justice and Development Party (AK Party), expressed deep concern over the recent drone attack targeting the residence of Nechirvan Barzani.
Speaking on Wednesday following a central executive committee meeting, Celik said they were “deeply saddened and concerned” by the incident. He also extended his wishes for Barzani’s safety and well-being.
Moreover, Celik highlighted the close relationship between the two sides. He noted that they maintain regular communication and consultation with Barzani, describing him as a well-known and respected political figure.
In addition, he praised Barzani’s role in strengthening ties between the Kurdistan Region and Turkey. He said Barzani has played a significant part in building friendly relations between Ankara and Erbil. Furthermore, Celik expressed relief that the attack did not result in casualties. He said they were glad that no one was harmed in the incident.
At the same time, he stressed the importance of stability in the region. He noted that such attacks could undermine security and increase tensions. Meanwhile, the remarks come amid growing regional concerns following a series of security incidents. Officials continue to warn about the risks posed by escalating tensions.
The drone attack on Barzani’s residence in Duhok has drawn widespread reactions. Both regional and international actors have condemned the incident and called for restraint. Celik reaffirmed his party’s concern over the attack. He emphasized the importance of maintaining strong relations and ensuring stability in the region.
