Erbil and Urmia Boost Ties Through Trade and Tourism

Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani welcomed an Iranian delegation led by Reza Rahmani, Governor of West Azerbaijan Province, also known as Urmia. The meeting, held in Erbil, focused on improving cooperation in trade and tourism.

Faramarz Asadi, Iran’s Consul General in Erbil, also joined the talks. Both sides discussed ways to deepen ties between the Kurdistan Region and neighboring Iran. They placed strong emphasis on increasing cross-border commercial activity and supporting the flow of tourists in both directions.

The Iranian delegation thanked the Kurdistan Regional Government for its continued hospitality. In particular, they expressed appreciation for the Region’s help in hosting Iranian pilgrims visiting nearby religious sites.

Prime Minister Barzani and Governor Rahmani both agreed that smoother travel and stronger infrastructure would benefit both sides. They noted that tourism and trade serve as key pillars in the relationship between the Kurdistan Region and Iran.

The leaders stressed the need for ongoing coordination. Better roads, customs cooperation, and border security were also part of the discussion. Both sides aim to expand their economic partnership through practical steps that bring results.

The meeting concluded with shared optimism and promises of future collaboration across multiple sectors.
