On the 11th anniversary of the Sinjar massacre, President Masoud Barzani delivered a powerful message. He said the Yazidis were targeted for their Kurdish identity and religious beliefs. He called the tragedy a part of the long suffering faced by the Kurdish people throughout history.
President Barzani stressed that the Sinjar attack was not an isolated event. Instead, it was part of a series of disasters caused by enemies of the Kurdish nation. He emphasized that the Kurdish people have endured cruelty time and time again. These crimes, he said, aimed to break the spirit of the nation but failed to do so.
He reminded everyone that ISIS committed unspeakable acts against Yazidis in 2014. Entire communities were wiped out, families torn apart, and thousands displaced. Barzani stated that this crime was not just against Yazidis but against all of Kurdistan.
President Barzani praised the Kurdish Peshmerga forces. He said they showed bravery, rescued the displaced, and liberated Sinjar and Mount Sinjar. He added that their heroic acts deserve lasting recognition.
He also thanked international allies who helped defeat ISIS. Their support, he said, played a crucial role in protecting the Kurdish people during that dark time.
Barzani directed strong words at the central government. He demanded full compensation for Sinjar victims and all others affected by Kurdish genocides. He said justice will not be complete until every survivor is recognized and supported.
He also called for a complete end to policies that deny Kurdish rights. He warned that unless there’s a change in mindset, history will repeat itself.
The message ended with a tribute to all victims and martyrs. President Barzani urged people never to forget the sacrifices made and the pain endured.
This statement reflects a deeper demand for justice, respect, and peace for the people of Kurdistan Region.
