Barzani, Italian Consul General Talk Partnership in Erbil

President Masoud Barzani met with Italian Consul General Tommaso Sansonm in Erbil’s Pirmam district. Their talks focused on enhancing ties between the Kurdistan Region and Italy.

Barzani expressed appreciation for Italy’s continued support. He praised the Italian government and people for standing by the Kurdistan Region during hard times. He specifically thanked Italy for its help in the fight against ISIS. Barzani noted that this assistance played a key role in the region’s defense and would always be remembered.

Consul General Sansone reaffirmed Italy’s strong relationship with the Kurdistan Region. He stated that Italy remains committed to building stronger ties across multiple sectors. These include trade, security, education, and cultural exchange.

The meeting also explored major developments and political challenges in the region. Barzani and Sansone discussed the state of KRG relations with Baghdad. They also reviewed tensions in Syria and the ongoing peace process in Turkey.

Both sides agreed on the importance of dialogue and regional stability. They stressed the need to strengthen cooperation to confront shared challenges.

The visit confirmed the growing friendship between Erbil and Rome. It also showed the determination of both sides to deepen mutual cooperation.
