Kurdistan Expands Solar ATM Network for 24-Hour Cash Access

The Kurdistan Regional Government has launched a major expansion of solar-powered ATMs to improve access to cash across the region. This move supports both financial modernization and clean energy goals.

Aziz Ahmad, Deputy Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister, announced that over 430 new solar-powered ATMs are now operational throughout Kurdistan. He said this number will likely grow to nearly 1,000 before the program ends.

“These ATMs offer 24-hour access to cash for citizens and visitors,” Ahmad explained in a recent statement. “This investment is already paying off.”

The new machines run entirely on solar energy. They are designed to function even in areas with unstable electricity supplies. This makes them especially helpful in rural and underserved parts of the Kurdistan Region.

Beyond convenience, the project also supports the KRG’s green energy strategy. Using solar power lowers operational costs and reduces the environmental impact of banking services.

The effort is part of a wider push to upgrade digital infrastructure. The KRG continues to pursue reforms in governance, financial systems, and public services. These changes aim to increase economic resilience amid regional instability.

By combining technology, sustainability, and accessibility, the KRG is building a smarter financial future for all.
