Tourists Flock to Kurdistan for Summer Escape

Kurdistan is experiencing a major tourism boost this summer as travelers from across the country seek relief from extreme heat. The region’s cooler climate and mountain scenery continue to attract large numbers of visitors.

Ibrahim Abdulmajid, spokesperson for the KRG’s Tourism Directorate, confirmed that tourist arrivals remain strong, despite drought conditions in some areas. He highlighted that Kurdistan offers unique weather and natural beauty, making it the top destination during the hot season.

“Even as temperatures rise, the number of visitors from central and southern areas keeps increasing,” said Abdulmajid. “Kurdistan remains the first choice for Iraqi tourists.”

The surge in tourism comes as part of a broader trend supported by infrastructure improvements and new development plans. Abdulmajid pointed to the Soran Autonomous Administration’s Master Tourism Plan as a key factor driving recent growth.

Soran’s ongoing projects, along with other regional developments, have contributed to the steady rise in visitor numbers. Abdulmajid noted that more tourism projects are now being implemented across various parts of the region.

Although the Directorate of Tourism is still gathering full statistics for the season, they expect this year’s numbers to break previous records. Officials are now working to collect detailed data on tourists, including their demographics and regions of origin.

School holidays and Kurdistan’s mild summer temperatures have played a major role in attracting families and travelers. While other regions face extreme heat, Kurdistan offers a refreshing alternative with natural attractions, cultural sites, and outdoor activities.

With more projects underway, tourism in the region is set to grow further, solidifying Kurdistan’s reputation as a cool-weather summer destination.
