Kurdistan Reaches New Stage in Debit Card Program

The Kurdistan Regional Government has taken a major step toward modernizing salary payments for public sector workers. Deputy Chief of Staff Aziz Ahmad confirmed that over 500,000 debit cards have now been distributed to civil servants and security forces across the region.

Ahmad announced that nearly 437,000 employees will receive their salaries through bank accounts next month. He also explained that this number could grow by up to 15 percent every month. This steady increase aims to ensure that more employees benefit from digital payment systems.

The shift to electronic salary transfers is part of a larger plan to improve financial transparency and reduce the use of cash. By promoting banking services, the government hopes to encourage savings, support access to loans, and make daily transactions safer for workers.

Officials have emphasized that this transition will also help streamline payroll operations and lower administrative expenses. In addition, it will strengthen the monitoring of public spending and improve accountability.

With this progress, the Kurdistan Region is moving closer to a fully modernized payment system. The government’s focus on reform continues to drive efficiency and trust in public financial management.
