Massive Fire Destroys Forest Land in Sharbazher, Sulaymaniyah

A large forest fire has destroyed 247 acres of woodland and grassland in the Sharbazher area of Sulaymaniyah province. The blaze spread across several villages, including Beyor, Siong, Kani Shwan, Berisk, and Norabab, causing significant environmental damage.

The Directorate of Forest and Environment Police confirmed that the fire started on Sunday. Firefighters from the Sharbazher Forest Police unit quickly responded, working alongside Civil Defense teams from Chwarta district and the town of Sitak. The Chwarta mayor’s office also provided support.

Local residents joined the firefighting operation, helping contain the flames before they could spread further. This combined effort proved critical in bringing the fire under control and protecting nearby communities.

Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the blaze. Investigations are underway to find out how it started and whether human activity played a role.

The incident highlights the vulnerability of the region’s forests during dry conditions. Officials urge residents to remain cautious and report any signs of fire immediately to prevent similar disasters.
