Ranya Warehouse Closure Over Expired Food Transfer

Authorities in Ranya closed a food warehouse after discovering the transfer of expired packaged grains to another city for reuse. The joint committees of the Ranya district administration, working closely with the Raparin Security Directorate’s Economic Division, carried out the closure after uncovering the illegal transport.

Officials confirmed that the “Puwar” warehouse in Ranya sent large quantities of rice, chickpeas, and beans from its branch storage to its main facility in Erbil. This action violated clear regulations that forbid moving expired dry food between cities. Investigations showed that some companies reprocess such items, repackage them, and sell them again in new bags, creating serious health concerns.

The Ranya district administration emphasized that food safety rules strictly ban the movement of expired or damaged grains from one location to another. These rules exist to prevent unsafe products from re-entering the market and threatening public health.

Despite previous warnings, the “Puwar” warehouse continued transferring the grains. As a result, the committees shut down the facility immediately. Authorities confirmed that further legal action will follow to ensure accountability.

Officials stressed that the closure serves as a warning to other businesses to follow all food safety regulations without exception.
