Erbil will soon welcome a series of new green spaces as the Chinese Consulate General expands its cultural and environmental projects. The consulate has already completed a Chinese-style park in the city and now plans to construct eight additional parks.
Dr. Andam Mustafa, a senior official at the Ministry of Municipalities and Tourism, explained that the initiative began with the idea of the “Chinese Friendship Park,” also called “China Park.” He noted that the Department of Foreign Relations encouraged countries with consulates in the Kurdistan Region to support development and greening efforts.
China became the first foreign country to respond and moved quickly to create a park for the people of Erbil. The completed park covers 11,000 square meters, with more than 9,000 square meters filled with trees, flowers, grass, and other greenery. Visitors can enjoy nearly 200 meters of walking paths, while solar power provides energy for the lighting system.
The project highlights the importance of international cooperation in building sustainable and healthy urban spaces. By investing in green development, China strengthens its friendship with the region while also supporting a cleaner environment.
According to available plans, eight more Chinese-designed parks will be developed, ensuring that Erbil continues to grow as a modern and eco-friendly city.
