A new study has raised serious concerns about the widespread habit of using mobile phones inside toilets. Researchers found that this behavior may not only damage physical health but could also create psychological and social problems.
The survey, conducted on 125 participants in the United States, revealed that 46% of people who regularly used mobile phones in toilets experienced digestive issues. Among them, 40% confirmed suffering from such problems, while 93% admitted to using their devices in the toilet at least once a week.
Digital health expert Alex Beattie from Victoria University in Wellington stressed that mobile phones have penetrated the most private aspects of human life. He explained that phone use in toilets often develops into an addictive habit, similar to smoking, and is very difficult to stop. Beattie also warned that leaving applications open in such environments could expose users to privacy risks and potential data theft.
Furthermore, researchers highlighted other dangers. They noted that viruses, bacteria, and general hygiene issues multiply when devices are used in bathrooms, increasing health risks. They strongly advised people to keep phones out of bathrooms and toilets to avoid harmful consequences.
The study concluded that mobile phone users in toilets expose themselves to unnecessary risks. Experts emphasized that avoiding the practice altogether remains the only safe solution.
