Halabja Hosts second Women’s Poetry Festival

Halabja is bringing poetry and women together again with the second Women’s Poetry Festival. The event celebrates female poets and their voices in literature.

The Directorate of Culture and Arts in Halabja announced that the festival will take place at the Professor Dr. Mustafa Zalmi Hall. The chosen theme is, “Women, writing their secrets only with their own pens.”

At the festival, eight women poets will share eight unique poems. The participants include Sheida Marouf, Zhian Qaradakhi, Katan Khadimi, Rezan Qasab, Shermin Wali, Saziani Shaheed Talib, Rebini Shirin, and Leyla Rezayi. Each poet will present original work that highlights women’s perspectives in poetry.

The gathering begins in the morning and continues into the afternoon. Later in the day, two poetry discussions will be held, giving audiences a chance to reflect on the themes and voices presented. At the closing ceremony, the poets will receive awards in recognition of their participation.

The festival emphasizes the importance of women’s role in Kurdish literature. It also shows how Halabja is developing as a center for cultural and artistic activities. Events like this give new space for women writers to be heard and celebrated.
