Kassnazan Park in Erbil Struggles to Grow Greenery Due to Water Shortage

Erbil’s Kassnazan Park, a popular public space, is facing challenges in planting new greenery because of a water shortage. The park, spanning 40,000 square meters, already hosts several olive and shade trees, along with other plant species.

Ali Rashid, director of Erbil’s Kassnazan Municipality, said the team continually maintains and cleans the park. However, he noted that visitors do not always follow the rules, leaving trash behind despite ongoing efforts. Rashid emphasized that the municipality encourages citizens to keep the park clean and plant flowers responsibly.

The park includes 600 flower pots placed around the grounds to brighten the area. “The main problem is the lack of water, which has prevented us from planting fresh greenery until now,” Rashid explained. He added that the Erbil provincial budget allocated 84 million dinars recently for improving irrigation, planting more flowers, and overall park development.

Looking ahead, the municipality plans to plant additional grass, shrubs, and flowers next week. These efforts aim to enhance the park’s beauty, increase public enjoyment, and promote a cleaner environment in Kassnazan.

By maintaining cleanliness and expanding greenery, the municipality hopes to create a safe and inviting space for residents and visitors alike.
