Kurdish leaders highlight coexistence on Islamic Scholars Union anniversary

Kurdish leaders honored the 55th anniversary of the Kurdistan Islamic Scholars Union. They highlighted its role in protecting coexistence and fighting extremism.

The Union began in 1969 during the Kurdish revolution. At first, it acted as a resistance body. Later, it shifted its mission toward rejecting radical ideologies. Today, it encourages acceptance across ethnic and religious groups. It also plays a central role in safeguarding harmony across Kurdistan.

Masoud Barzani, leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), recalled how the Union was founded. He said it was created on the advice of his father, Mullah Mustafa Barzani. According to him, the decision was historic. It placed scholars at the heart of national awareness and the defense of Kurdish rights.

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani also praised the Union in his message. He said the scholars promote moderation in Islam. Furthermore, they stand firmly against extremism. He underlined their efforts to unite Kurdistan’s different communities.

President Nechirvan Barzani gave similar remarks earlier. He emphasized that the Union promotes dialogue and challenges fanaticism. He called its scholars key partners in keeping peace across Kurdistan.

The anniversary once again showed the Union’s influence. Kurdish leaders continue to describe it as a strong pillar of unity. They also value its guidance in rejecting hatred and violence.
