Kurdish Artist Crafts Carpet Celebrating German Embassy and Kurdistan

A young Kurdish artist in Erbil has created a unique carpet depicting the German embassy’s building, adorned with both the flags of Kurdistan and Germany. The artwork reflects his admiration for Germany’s support of the Kurdistan Region, particularly its assistance to Peshmerga forces in the fight against ISIS.

Brwa Hamaed Amin, the Erbil-based artist who has spent several years in Germany, told local media that he crafted the carpet as a tribute to Friedrich Merz, the German ambassador, highlighting the strong bond between the two regions. The carpet measures 1.5 meters in length and 1 meter in width, with meticulous attention to detail. On the front side, it features the embassy building, while the back displays the Kurdish and German flags side by side.

Amin explained that he plans to present the carpet to the German embassy in Erbil and hopes it will encourage further support for the Kurdistan Region. “I want this piece to symbolize friendship and cooperation, and to remind everyone of the ongoing efforts to strengthen Kurdistan’s ties with Germany,” he said.

The carpet’s design involved careful planning and skilled craftsmanship. Amin used 1,500 threads in the weaving process, spending two months completing the work. The production cost totaled €1,350.

By blending cultural artistry with diplomatic symbolism, Amin’s carpet serves as a unique gesture of appreciation and a call for continued international partnership, reflecting both pride in Kurdish heritage and recognition of Germany’s role in supporting regional stability.
