Kurdish Peshmerga Women Showcase Photo Exhibition in Erbil

A photo exhibition highlighting the lives and struggles of female Peshmerga fighters opened at Erbil Citadel. The event, titled “My Peshmerga Woman”, aimed to honor the courage, resilience, and contributions of women in the Kurdistan Region’s armed forces.

The exhibition was organized by the Kurdish Ministry of Peshmerga in coordination with Dutch military attachés and senior officials from the Ministry’s Public Relations Directorate. Attendees included General Linda Kapila, the Dutch military attaché, and Lieutenant General Rokan Bakhtiar Muhammad, Director General of the Ministry of Peshmerga.

Colonel Kapila, who oversaw the exhibition, emphasized that it goes beyond photography. She described it as a tribute to freedom, empowerment, and the vital role women play in defending the homeland. “When I view these images, I see strength and sacrifice. Women Peshmerga are brave, serve diligently, and protect their nation,” she said.

Lieutenant General Bakhtiar Muhammad highlighted the Ministry’s commitment to gender equality within the armed forces. He noted that women’s participation in Peshmerga operations reflects a principle of equal opportunity and recognition regardless of gender.

The exhibition, prepared in collaboration with the Dutch military team, presents a visual report of women’s experiences, military service, and dedication to the Kurdistan Region. Officials stressed that such initiatives not only honor female fighters but also reinforce international cooperation and underscore the crucial role of women in national defense and societal development.

By showcasing these stories, the event aims to inspire future generations and promote awareness of the significant contributions of female Peshmerga in maintaining security and resilience in the Kurdistan Region.
