President Barzani, Iraq’s Al-Samarrai Rally Support for November Elections

Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani met with Muthanna al-Samarrai, head of the Azm Alliance, to discuss Iraq’s upcoming parliamentary elections. Their talks highlighted the importance of broad political cooperation to ensure stability, security, and unity across Iraq.

A statement from the Kurdistan Region presidency confirmed that both leaders stressed the need to address long-standing issues, particularly those concerning relations between Erbil and Baghdad. They agreed that dialogue remains essential for easing tensions and creating the right environment for the elections.

Barzani and al-Samarrai further emphasized that full participation by political forces and diverse Iraqi communities will be critical for a smooth electoral process. They noted that inclusive engagement will help reinforce Iraq’s democratic framework and strengthen its institutions.

The Azm Alliance, which currently holds 14 seats in Iraq’s 329-member Council of Representatives, has partnered with Osama al-Nujaifi’s Mutahidoon Party in preparation for the vote. The coalition aims to maximize its influence and play a decisive role in shaping Iraq’s next parliament.

Iraq’s Independent High Electoral Commission has announced more than 21 million registered voters. The official campaign period will run from early October until just before special voting begins.

With the elections scheduled for November 11, political leaders continue to rally support, calling for unity and urging citizens to participate in shaping Iraq’s future.
