Kurdistan Region President Pledges Continued Support for Iraq’s Religious Communities

Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani reaffirmed his commitment to protecting the rights of Iraq’s diverse religious and ethnic communities. His remarks came during a meeting with a delegation from the Federal Cabinet’s Office of Christian, Yazidi, and Mandaean Endowments, led by Dr. Rami Joseph Aghajan.

The discussions focused on the challenges facing Iraq’s religious minorities, particularly in terms of political participation, cultural preservation, and institutional representation. Both sides highlighted the importance of ensuring that Christian, Yazidi, and Mandaean communities hold a stronger voice in decision-making bodies at both regional and federal levels.

President Barzani stressed that inclusion remains a cornerstone of the Kurdistan Region’s policies. He emphasized that protecting religious diversity not only safeguards rights but also strengthens Iraq’s overall social fabric. He added that the government will continue to provide necessary support to guarantee the entitlements of all communities.

The delegation expressed its appreciation for Barzani’s longstanding advocacy. Members noted that his backing has provided encouragement and tangible results for Iraq’s religious groups. They also underscored the need to invest more in education, cultural initiatives, and awareness campaigns that promote mutual respect and coexistence among Iraq’s varied populations.

The meeting underscored a shared vision: Iraq’s stability and future growth depend on protecting pluralism and encouraging harmony among its communities. President Barzani reiterated that the Kurdistan Region stands ready to play a leading role in this effort.
