Kurdistan Region MyAccount Program Surpasses 500,000 Users

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has achieved a major milestone with its MyAccount program, now serving over half a million civil servants and pensioners. The initiative allows public employees to receive salaries digitally through participating banks, marking a significant advance in financial inclusion.

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani announced the achievement, noting that the bankable population in the Kurdistan Region has grown from less than 5% to more than 15% since the program launched. Banks have expanded retail services, increased branches and ATMs, and improved customer support to accommodate the surge in digital accounts.

Barzani emphasized that the MyAccount system has processed over $3 billion in deposits, boosting access to credit for individuals, small businesses, and startups. “This program creates jobs in the financial sector while strengthening economic activity and credit availability,” he said.

The initiative has also streamlined government payroll, accelerating disbursements and improving transparency in salary payments. Citizens now experience faster and more secure transactions, while the KRG benefits from more efficient fiscal management.

Looking ahead, the KRG aims to expand financial inclusion to over 50% of the population by 2028. The program forms part of the ninth cabinet’s broader agenda to modernize the financial system, reduce corruption risks, and enhance public sector services.

The MyAccount program also requires participating banks to invest in infrastructure, including ATMs and POS devices, and adhere to strict financial regulations. Barzani stressed that the program strengthens the overall banking system while aligning with international standards.

For citizens seeking more information, the KRG provides resources via its official website and a dedicated service center at 1991.
