Erbil Municipality Urges Careful Election Campaigning to Protect City Streets

Erbil Municipality has warned political parties to follow regulations during the election campaign and avoid damaging the city’s streets and public spaces. Officials emphasized that legal measures will apply to any party that violates these rules.

The campaign for parliamentary elections officially began, and parties have started placing images, posters, and candidate lists along city streets and public areas. Municipality officials provided detailed guidance on where and how campaign posters should be displayed to ensure public safety and preserve the urban landscape.

Karzan Abdulhadi, head of Erbil Municipality, stated, “Election campaigns must not damage the city’s appearance or the greenery in public areas. Legal action will apply to any party that ignores our instructions.”

Municipality teams will monitor streets closely and remove any posters placed outside the approved areas. The move aims to maintain a clean and orderly city environment during the busy election season.

The parliamentary elections will take place on November 11, with the 37-day campaign period now underway. Over 21 million citizens are eligible to vote, and 7,768 candidates are competing for 329 parliamentary seats. The municipality’s proactive approach ensures that election promotion does not compromise public spaces while supporting fair and transparent campaigning.

By enforcing these rules, Erbil Municipality seeks to balance vibrant political activity with civic responsibility, protecting the city’s streets while enabling voters to engage fully in the democratic process.
