Erbil’s Green Transformation: Five New Parks Set to Revitalize the City

Erbil authorities announced that construction work on five large parks across the city is nearing completion. This initiative aligns with the ninth cabinet’s focus on environmental protection and green expansion in the Kurdistan Region.

The project covers 200 acres of land in central Erbil, where more than 40,000 trees are being planted. According to Governor Omed Khoshnaw, the parks will enhance the city’s greenery and offer residents new recreation areas. Each park is located in a different district to ensure equal access for citizens.

The first park, near the 120-Meter Street, spans 80 acres and includes 8,000 trees. About 70% of the work is finished. The Rashkin Park, covering 47 acres with 16,000 trees, has reached 50% completion. The Nazdar Park, spread over 4 dunams and featuring 6,000 trees, is 80% complete. Meanwhile, the Zhiyan Park, built on 7 acres with 5,000 trees, has also reached 70% completion. The fifth park, located along the 150-Meter Street, spans 60 acres, with work actively underway.

Officials said the city’s ongoing green belt project will double Erbil’s total green coverage, helping improve air quality and urban livability. Once completed, these parks will serve as vital lungs for the capital, supporting sustainability and community wellbeing.
