Kurdistan Celebrates Jama Feast with PM Barzani’s Support for Yazidis

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani extended his congratulations to Yazidis as the Jama Feast began in Lalish. He reaffirmed the KRG’s commitment to protecting the legitimate rights of the Yazidi community, calling them an authentic component of Kurdistan. The PM’s message emphasizes the importance of unity and support for Yazidis in the region and the diaspora.

Thousands of Yazidi pilgrims from across Kurdistan and abroad arrived at Lalish Temple, the holiest site of their faith. The Jama Feast, a week-long festival, celebrates ancient rituals, prayer, and communal gathering. Officials expect more than 200,000 worshippers this year. Pilgrims travel from Syria, Türkiye, and European nations to participate in the sacred ceremonies, highlighting the festival’s global importance.

During the festival, the temple prepares for multiple rituals. Families and spiritual leaders clean courtyards, prepare sacred foods, and chant hymns. The Peri Suwarkan ceremony involves tying colorful wishing ribbons at shrines, symbolizing spiritual renewal. On the fifth day, the Qebax ritual at Mount Arafat includes a sacrificial offering to Sheikh Shams, reinforcing Yazidi devotion. The festival also features grand processions, torchlight ceremonies, and sacred music, culminating with the washing of Tawusê Melek, the Peacock Angel.

PM Barzani emphasized the government’s unwavering support for Yazidis. He highlighted the KRG’s commitment to protecting their rights and preserving cultural and spiritual heritage. His message coincides with one of the most important periods for Yazidis, reinforcing the community’s resilience and identity.

The Jama Feast blends faith, culture, and community. It demonstrates Yazidis’ strength, continuity, and global presence. Prime Minister Barzani’s message strengthens this unity and reassures the Yazidi people of their integral role in Kurdistan.

The celebration illustrates how spiritual traditions and government support combine to preserve Yazidi identity. It also encourages global Yazidi participation and communal solidarity, ensuring the festival’s continuity for future generations.
