Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met with Haider al-Abadi, head of the Nasr Coalition, to discuss key national issues. Both leaders emphasized the importance of resolving disputes between Erbil and Baghdad through constitutional principles.
The meeting came after recent developments in Iraq’s oil relations, as Kurdistan’s oil has once again reached European markets following a trilateral agreement among the Kurdistan Region, oil-producing companies, and the federal government. This step has created a positive environment for dialogue between both sides. Iraq is also preparing for new parliamentary elections scheduled for next month.
According to the Kurdistan Regional Government’s official website, the two sides reviewed Iraq’s overall political situation and relations between Erbil and Baghdad. They agreed on the need to respect the constitutional and federal framework of the Kurdistan Region and address all pending issues accordingly. Preparations for the upcoming elections were another key topic.
Abadi’s office stated that discussions focused on national stability, the importance of protecting citizens’ interests, and ensuring the success of democratic reforms. Both leaders stressed the need for political, economic, and security reforms that strengthen democracy and serve the interests of all Iraqis.
