Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met with Ammar al-Hakim, leader of the National Wisdom Movement, to discuss stronger Erbil–Baghdad energy cooperation and ways to resolve long-standing disputes.
According to an official statement, the meeting centered on the recent tripartite agreement to restart oil exports from the Kurdistan Region. Both leaders agreed that this development should lead to long-awaited federal oil and gas legislation that ensures fair resource management across Iraq.
Barzani highlighted the Kurdistan Regional Government’s commitment to improving ties with Baghdad through practical collaboration. He reaffirmed the Region’s readiness to help tackle Iraq’s ongoing electricity shortages, referencing the success of the KRG’s Runaki 24-hour power project.
The Prime Minister also mentioned the Region’s digital banking reform efforts, including the Hasabi financial inclusion platform, which aims to modernize governance and expand economic participation.
Barzani and al-Hakim further discussed the upcoming November parliamentary elections, stressing the importance of national dialogue and political stability to protect the rights of all Iraqi communities.
Through these initiatives, Erbil–Baghdad energy cooperation continues to evolve as a cornerstone for stronger economic and political relations between the two governments.
