Kurdistan Region Strengthens Ties with Iran

Relations between the Kurdistan Region and Iran have reached unprecedented levels, according to the Iranian Consul General in Erbil, Faramarz Asadi. He emphasized that both sides share strong cultural and familial ties, uniting the two regions as one community across the border.

Asadi highlighted that political cooperation between the Kurdistan Region and Iran is now at its highest point. Recent visits by Kurdistan Region leaders to Tehran, and Iranian officials to Erbil, underscore the depth of their collaboration. These exchanges have strengthened trust and reinforced mutual interests.

During the recent 12-Day War between Israel and Iran, Iran set three key expectations for the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), all of which were fulfilled positively. One expectation was that Kurdistan’s media outlets would maintain impartiality and report only verified news.

Another expectation was that the Kurdistan Region would remain neutral and avoid becoming a source of attacks against Iran. Asadi expressed gratitude for the KRG’s professionalism and the balanced coverage by media, calling it a demonstration of integrity and regional solidarity.

He added that this cooperation reflects a broader commitment to peace and stability in the region. The Kurdistan Region’s support during the conflict showcased its ability to manage sensitive geopolitical challenges responsibly.

Observers note that the strong ties between Erbil and Tehran could enhance trade, cultural exchange, and security cooperation. Both regions now appear focused on fostering a collaborative environment that benefits citizens on both sides of the border.

The Consul General concluded by reaffirming Iran’s appreciation for the Kurdistan Region’s role as a reliable neighbor and ally, highlighting that these strengthened ties could serve as a model for regional diplomacy.
