Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Vice President Nechirvan Barzani has called for unity among Kurdish parties and stronger representation in Baghdad to protect the constitutional rights of the Kurdistan Region. Speaking at a campaign rally in Erbil, Barzani urged voters to support the KDP in the upcoming Iraqi parliamentary elections.
Barzani began his address by thanking thousands of enthusiastic supporters for their loyalty and commitment. He reminded the crowd that many of the challenges facing the Kurdistan Region stem from the federal government’s failure to fully implement Iraq’s constitution. He emphasized that enforcing the constitution is the only way to secure justice and equality for all Iraqis.
“At this critical stage, the constitution must be implemented,” he said. “If we want to protect the rights of the Kurds, we must be united and strong in Baghdad.”
Barzani praised KDP supporters for their role in achieving electoral success in the past. “You brought the KDP to 800,000 votes, but now our goal is to reach one million,” he told the audience, calling for strong voter turnout.
Citing President Masoud Barzani’s words, he added, “President Barzani has taught us that the KDP is the means, and Kurdistan is the goal.” He described the KDP as a source of progress and stability, saying, “Wherever the KDP is present, there is prosperity.”
Highlighting the Kurdistan Regional Government’s accomplishments, Barzani said that Erbil’s development under KDP leadership is a model for the entire region. He expressed pride in the government’s achievements, calling them “just the beginning” of broader progress to come.
He reaffirmed that peace, coexistence, and democracy are central to the KDP’s mission. “The political process and the resolution of disputes in Iraq must happen through democratic means and at the ballot box,” he said.
Barzani concluded by stressing that the KDP remains the protector of Kurdish rights in Baghdad. “If the KDP is strong in Baghdad, Kurdistan will be strong,” he declared, calling on all Kurdish political forces to stand united for the people’s future.
