Kurdistan and France Strengthen Cooperation for Iraq’s Political Stability

Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani met with French Ambassador to Iraq Patrick Dorrell to discuss Iraq’s upcoming parliamentary elections and broader regional developments.

During the meeting, both leaders highlighted the importance of ensuring a successful and transparent political process in Iraq. They agreed that maintaining security, supporting fair elections, and encouraging cooperation among all Iraqi political parties and communities are essential for long-term stability.

The Kurdistan Presidency said the discussion also focused on enhancing bilateral relations between France, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening ties through economic collaboration, political dialogue, and cultural exchange.

The meeting, also attended by France’s Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, Yann Brim, covered several regional topics. These included the peace process in Turkiye, the Kurdish question, the ongoing situation in Syria, and the recent ceasefire agreement in Gaza.

President Barzani expressed appreciation for France’s continued support for Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. He emphasized that international cooperation remains crucial for maintaining stability and advancing democratic values in the country.

Ambassador Dorrell reaffirmed France’s readiness to work closely with the Kurdistan Region to strengthen governance, promote peace, and support Iraq’s overall political success.
