KDP Holds Major Electoral Carnival in Akre

The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) organized one of its largest electoral carnivals in Akre with the participation of Kurdish leader Nechirvan Barzani. The event, held across both Akre and Berdersh districts, aimed to engage voters ahead of Iraq’s parliamentary elections and highlight the party’s regional agenda.

Dr. Merdan Khidr, head of the KDP’s Ninth Branch, told local media that the carnival began at 2 PM at Akre Stadium, with thousands expected to attend from across the districts. The event offered an opportunity for the public to meet candidates, learn about the party’s program, and witness speeches by senior leaders.

Nechirvan Barzani delivered remarks outlining the KDP’s vision for both Kurdistan and Iraq, emphasizing development, governance, and regional stability. The carnival featured performances by local artists, including Hasan Sharif, Mohammed Taha Akreyi, and Safary, along with their family members, bringing music and cultural displays to the audience.

All 22 KDP candidates from Duhok province participated, highlighting their commitment to voter engagement and community outreach. In the 2024 Kurdistan parliamentary elections, the KDP received over 83,000 votes in Akre and Berdersh, increasing its total by more than 19,000 votes compared to 2021. The party is expected to secure 11 seats from this province.

This carnival reflects the KDP’s strategy to strengthen voter awareness, promote cultural unity, and ensure active participation in the upcoming parliamentary elections, where more than 3.068 million residents in Duhok, Erbil, and Sulaymaniyah are eligible to vote, including 778,846 voters in Duhok alone.
