The Turkish Consul General in Erbil, Arman Topçu, reaffirmed the strong and enduring ties between Türkiye and the Kurdistan Region, describing the relationship as both “strategic and deeply rooted.” He emphasized that the two sides continue to expand cooperation across economic, political, and cultural fields.
Topçu noted that annual trade between Türkiye and Iraq has reached around $20 billion, with nearly one-third of that directed toward the Kurdistan Region. He said this growing trade volume reflects mutual trust and expanding opportunities in energy, construction, and agriculture.
Moreover, the consul highlighted that exports from Türkiye’s southeastern provinces, particularly Diyarbakır, have steadily increased in recent years, contributing to broader economic stability. He explained that the ongoing peace process in Türkiye has also played a positive role in facilitating trade and regional development.
Topçu stressed that Erbil and Ankara share the same vision for promoting peace, economic integration, and long-term partnership in the region. He underlined that both governments aim to strengthen energy cooperation and logistical links through key border crossings and transport routes.
He concluded by expressing Türkiye’s continued commitment to supporting Kurdistan’s stability and growth, calling their partnership “a model of regional cooperation built on trust and shared interests.”
