Election officials in Kirkuk expect voter turnout to reach 100% in the ongoing Iraqi parliamentary election, marking one of the highest participation rates in the country. According to the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC), the process has progressed smoothly, with no significant complaints or disruptions reported so far.
By midday, the commission recorded a turnout of 61% across the province, reflecting strong engagement among eligible voters. Local officials said they swiftly addressed minor technical issues, ensuring that all polling centers remained operational throughout the day.
IHEC spokespersons in Kirkuk noted that the province’s security forces, election staff, and observers coordinated effectively to maintain a calm and orderly environment. They emphasized that voter confidence appeared higher this year, with citizens motivated by a desire for stability, improved governance, and stronger representation in Baghdad.
Observers attributed the high turnout to intensive awareness campaigns by local parties and civic organizations encouraging participation. They also highlighted the readiness of electoral teams and the transparency of the digital verification system used at polling stations.
With the main voting day approaching its final hours, officials continue to monitor turnout rates closely, confident that Kirkuk will set a new benchmark for electoral participation in the Kurdistan Region.
