Fighting has intensified across several areas of northern Syria. In particular, clashes continue around the city of Kobani and the Lafarge cement factory. As tensions rise, Kurdish forces report expanding military pressure.
Siamand Ali, spokesperson for the People’s Protection Units, addressed recent developments during an interview. He said Syrian army forces and Turkey-backed militias seek to divide Rojava’s cities. According to him, this strategy aims to weaken resistance and enable easier territorial control.
Meanwhile, Ali said Syrian forces use heavy weapons on multiple fronts. He also said Turkish drones play a major role in current operations. Specifically, he mentioned Bayraktar and Akinci drones targeting Kurdish positions. Consequently, civilian areas near frontlines face growing danger.
At the same time, Ali revealed changes within the Syrian Democratic Forces. He said the SDF once counted nearly 100,000 fighters. However, he explained that about 50,000 Arab fighters recently defected. He added that those fighters joined the government led by Ahmed al-Shar’a.
Furthermore, Ali warned of strategic movements on the ground. He said Syrian forces aim to seize the M5 highway. This route holds major strategic importance. Moreover, control of the highway would cut Qamishli off from the Iraqi border. As a result, supply routes would suffer severe disruption.
Despite the pressure, Ali praised Kurdish unity. He also commended President Masoud Barzani for his support of Rojava. According to Ali, this backing strengthens morale during a critical moment.
However, Ali criticized international silence. In particular, he expressed frustration with the United States. He said American inaction surprised many observers. Meanwhile, thousands of ISIS detainees remain in camps guarded by allied forces.
Therefore, Ali warned of broader security risks. He said instability threatens both regional safety and international interests. As fighting continues, Kurdish forces remain on high alert across Rojava.
