Kurdistan PM Hosts UK APPG Delegation on Religious Freedom

Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani welcomed a delegation from the United Kingdom’s All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG). The group was led by Jim Shannon.

The delegation explained its mandate. It focuses on religious freedom, interfaith dialogue, and minority rights worldwide. Members praised Kurdistan as a model of peaceful coexistence.

Prime Minister Barzani reaffirmed the KRG’s commitment to protecting minorities. He stressed that the government promotes freedom of belief and strengthens social harmony.

Kurdistan has long supported religious and ethnic minorities. Communities include Christians, Yazidis, Shabaks, Kaka’is, and Sabean-Mandaeans. They enjoy constitutional protections for belief, expression, and worship.

The KRG also passed laws to protect minority rights. It ensures fair representation and rebuilds religious sites damaged during conflicts, including ISIS’s occupation.

The Region hosts annual events celebrating diversity. Conferences, cultural festivals, and public forums are organized by the Ministry of Endowment and Religious Affairs. Workshops educate youth on tolerance, human rights, and civic engagement.

International delegations regularly visit Kurdistan. They assess practices, share ideas on minority protections, and support programs that reinforce freedom of belief. Such engagement boosts Kurdistan’s reputation as a safe haven and a model of coexistence.

The KRG demonstrates its dedication to pluralism, social cohesion, and governance rooted in tolerance. Religious freedom remains a cornerstone of stability and inclusive society-building.
