ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Thousands of disabled Peshmerga fighters continue to face delay in receiving their salaries, raising concerns among affected families.
According to Nasraddin Mohammed, more than 3,200 members have not received their October Delay salaries. However, they have already been paid for January and February. Moreover, he stated that around 800 additional members have not received any salaries since October. Their cases remain pending due to incomplete administrative procedures.
In addition, officials have promised payments soon. Mohammed said authorities plan to distribute at least one month’s salary to all affected individuals this month. However, uncertainty remains about when earlier unpaid salaries will be cleared. Some officials have linked the delays to budget issues in Baghdad.
The main issue stems from administrative backlogs. Around 9,000 cases were transferred from Peshmerga units 70 and 80 to the Ministry of Finance. Many of these files are still under review. At the same time, missing documentation has slowed progress. Some beneficiaries lack required identification numbers, while others have unresolved inheritance cases.
The Kurdistan Regional Government Ministry of Finance clarified its position. It said adding names to the payroll depends on completing legal and administrative requirements. The ministry also confirmed that hundreds of cases were approved after review. These individuals were included in the March payroll system.
Officials say efforts are ongoing to resolve the issue. They stress that all unpaid salaries will eventually be disbursed once budget approvals and procedures are finalized.
