The Kurdistan Regional Government’s “Runaki” electricity project has surpassed 900,000 registered subscribers across the Kurdistan Region. Officials also confirmed that the project’s mobile application will launch later this summer.
According to a statement released on Wednesday, the total includes both residential and commercial subscribers. Officials explained that the system counts each home and business unit separately.
The Runaki project team said citizens who buy new properties or move into rented homes must register the unit under their own names. This allows subscribers to access the project’s digital services and future electronic features.
In addition, officials said thousands of people continue registering every day. However, some subscribers still have not completed registration. As a result, they cannot access certain services and benefits linked to the system.
The project team said limited public awareness remains the main reason behind incomplete registrations. Therefore, officials urged citizens to complete self-registration as soon as possible.
According to Runaki authorities, the registration process links the subscriber’s phone number to the electricity account. This enables the system to send SMS notifications about electricity usage, billing details, payment updates, and maintenance schedules.
Furthermore, the upcoming mobile application will allow users to monitor electricity consumption in real time. Subscribers will also review payment history, access detailed bills, and pay electricity fees electronically.
Officials confirmed that unregistered users will not gain access to the application until they complete registration.
The Runaki project, launched by Kurdistan Regional Government in late 2024, remains one of the Kurdistan Region’s largest electricity reform programs. The initiative aims to provide 24-hour electricity, reduce reliance on private generators, and modernize the power grid.
According to official figures, nearly 5.5 million citizens currently benefit from the project across the Kurdistan Region.
Officials also stressed that the digital system improves transparency, reduces accumulated debt, and strengthens electricity management. Citizens seeking more information can contact the Runaki customer service center through hotline 1992.
