President Masoud Barzani, Najaf Delegation Discuss Stronger Cooperation and Historical Ties

President Masoud Barzani received Najaf Governor Yousef Al-Ghannawi and members of the Najaf Provincial Council. The meeting focused on stronger cooperation between the Kurdistan Region and Najaf Province.

Both sides discussed reconstruction, environmental protection, and public services. They also reviewed Iraq’s political situation and highlighted the historical relationship between the Kurdistan Region and Najaf.

A statement from President Barzani Headquarters said the officials stressed stronger coordination in sectors that directly affect citizens. These sectors include infrastructure, environmental management, and urban development.

The visit reflects growing cooperation between Iraqi provinces and the Kurdistan Region. Many local governments want to benefit from the Region’s experience in modernization and development.

Over the past two decades, the Kurdistan Region has seen major transformation. Large investment projects have changed the urban landscape across several cities.

Erbil, Duhok, and Sulaimani have expanded rapidly. The cities now include more residential areas, business centers, road networks, tourism facilities, and housing projects.

Meanwhile, the Kurdistan Regional Government has introduced governance reforms. Officials launched digital systems to simplify procedures and reduce bureaucracy. These changes also improved access to public services.

Environmental sustainability has become another priority. Authorities introduced sewage networks, sanitation systems, water treatment projects, and urban infrastructure programs.

These initiatives help address challenges caused by population growth and city expansion. They also improve living conditions in growing urban areas.

Energy reform remains central to the government’s development plans. Through the Runaki Project, the government aims to provide 24-hour electricity across the Kurdistan Region. The project also seeks to reduce reliance on private generators.

In addition, the Region continues economic diversification efforts. Authorities support agriculture, tourism, and industrial investment. Local manufacturing and agricultural production have also expanded.

The meeting highlighted shared goals between the Kurdistan Region and Iraqi provinces. Reconstruction, environmental challenges, and infrastructure modernization remain national priorities across Iraq.
