Barzani Headquarters strongly condemned drone attacks targeting senior Kurdistan Region officials early Monday. The statement described the strikes as attempts to undermine regional stability.
The attacks occurred around 12:28 a.m. on August 17, 2026, in Pirmam, Erbil Province. Two explosive-laden Hadid-110 drones reportedly targeted locations connected with regional leadership.
The Kurdistan Counter-Terrorism Directorate identified the Prime Minister’s private office as one target. It also identified the residence of the Protection Agency director as another target.
Prime Minister Masrour Barzani described the incident as a dangerous escalation against regional security. He also stressed that the Kurdistan Regional Government would continue fulfilling its responsibilities.
Meanwhile, Barzani Headquarters issued a separate statement condemning the attacks. It emphasized that the Kurdistan Region should not become involved in regional conflicts.
The statement said the Region has never been part of the ongoing wars and tensions. Therefore, it argued that attacks against its territory have no legitimate justification.
Barzani Headquarters also warned that such attacks threaten stability across the Kurdistan Region. Furthermore, it rejected drones and missiles as solutions to political disputes.
The incident comes amid growing regional tensions involving drones, missiles, and cross-border military activity. Consequently, the latest attack has renewed concerns about security around Erbil.
The choice of targets increased the incident’s political significance. Rather than targeting conventional military positions, the drones reportedly struck properties linked to senior officials.
No casualties were reported following the attack, according to the counter-terrorism directorate. However, authorities have not provided a complete assessment of potential property damage.
The directorate also did not identify the organization responsible for launching the drones. Nevertheless, it said the drones came from across the Iranian border.
