President Nechirvan Barzani Meets Iraqi PM on Sidelines of Arab Cooperation Summit, Reinforces Erbil-Baghdad Coordination

Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani met with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani in Baghdad on the sidelines of the Arab Cooperation Conference, in a move aimed at strengthening ties between Erbil and Baghdad and deepening coordination across political, economic, and administrative sectors.

The meeting comes at a time when both sides are seeking to reinforce dialogue and stability through more institutional cooperation. President Barzani congratulated Prime Minister Sudani on the successful hosting of the Arab Cooperation Conference and expressed appreciation for the formal invitation extended to the Kurdistan Region.

According to a statement from the Kurdistan Region Presidency, the discussion focused on the importance of mutual understanding and sustained efforts to address outstanding issues through a constructive and federal framework.

In addition to the meeting with the Iraqi Prime Minister, President Nechirvan Barzani also engaged with Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid and held brief but meaningful discussions with several top Arab leaders and representatives, including those from Egypt and Syria. These interactions underscore the Kurdistan Region’s broader diplomatic outreach and its ongoing commitment to fostering strong relationships within the Arab world.

President Nechirvan Barzani’s participation in the conference highlights the Region’s role as a reliable and stabilizing force within Iraq, and a proactive contributor to regional dialogue. Through such high-level engagements, the Kurdistan Region continues to position itself as a partner in building a more cooperative and peaceful Middle East.
