The Kurdistan Regional Government’s road expansion projects have significantly improved transportation between Erbil and Soran, reducing traffic congestion and cutting travel time for drivers across the region.
Before the road was converted into a dual carriageway, long lines of vehicles often stretched for several kilometers, especially during busy hours. Drivers say the new road has made travel faster, safer, and more comfortable.
Nasradin Ismail thanked the Kurdistan Regional Government for completing the project. He said authorities should continue improving other roads in the region, especially the Gali road.
Another driver, Ghazi Zrar, explained that the route used to experience severe traffic congestion. However, after the dual-carriageway project, traffic problems largely disappeared.
He also stated that traffic accidents have dropped by nearly 90 percent since the road expansion.
Ayoub Abubakir Khidr praised the Ninth Cabinet’s infrastructure projects. He said the government completed a high-quality road that no longer requires repeated repairs.
Traffic police officials also confirmed major improvements along the route.
Mohsin Tahsin said daily traffic accidents on the Spilk–Khalifan road have sharply declined since the road became dual carriageway.
Although accidents have not disappeared completely, Tahsin noted that authorities rarely record serious incidents involving deaths or major injuries.
He described the reduction in accidents as positive news for the entire Soran Independent Administration.
The project forms part of the Ninth Cabinet’s wider infrastructure plan in the region. Road construction and transportation projects have received major investment throughout the Kurdistan Region.
Officials say around 20 kilometers of roads within the Soran administration have already been converted into dual carriageways. Authorities have also paved and reconstructed several additional roads in the area.
The broader project aims to improve the strategic route linking Erbil with the Islamic Republic of Iran through Haji Omaran and other border crossings.
Officials believe the completed Erbil–Soran dual-carriageway project will strengthen tourism, trade, and transportation while improving road safety for thousands of travelers every day.
