Dust Storm Hits Kurdistan Region

A strong dust storm swept across several parts of the Kurdistan Region last night. By early morning, the storm grew thicker and reduced visibility in many areas.

The Directorate of Meteorology and Seismology announced that the storm came from northern and western regions. It spread over Garmiyan, southern Erbil province, and parts of Kirkuk. Forecasts indicate that it may continue for several more hours before clearing.

Meanwhile, the Sulaimani Traffic Directorate released a warning for drivers. Officials urged motorists to drive slowly, follow safety instructions, and remain alert on the roads. Reduced visibility, they warned, poses serious risks if drivers ignore traffic guidelines.

Authorities also provided additional advice to protect public safety. They recommended that drivers wear masks to reduce dust inhalation and maintain a safe distance between vehicles. Mountain roads and routes outside major cities should be avoided until conditions improve. Travelers were encouraged to delay non-essential trips until the storm passes.

This dust storm highlights the region’s ongoing struggle with seasonal weather challenges. Local agencies continue to monitor conditions while urging citizens to prioritize safety until visibility improves.
