Erbil to Baghdad: Stop Drone Attacks or Face Response

Erbil has delivered a strong warning to Baghdad following continued drone strikes in the Kurdistan Region. Interior Minister Rebar Ahmed made it clear that the Region will not tolerate more attacks on its land and infrastructure.

Speaking at a joint press conference in Erbil with Iraq’s National Security Advisor Qassim al-Araji, Ahmed criticized the federal government for its inaction. He said Baghdad has failed to stop the assaults, even though investigations have already produced results. “Despite reaching conclusions, Baghdad has taken no action,” Ahmed declared.

The strikes have severely damaged oil facilities, causing major setbacks to the local economy. Ahmed emphasized that restarting full oil operations will take time and cooperation. However, he expressed hope that al-Araji’s visit might mark the beginning of real solutions.

Earlier that day, another drone hit Rizgary in Khabat. Referring to the incident, Ahmed remarked, “This morning, we received another guest,” to which al-Araji asked, “Who?” Ahmed replied, “A drone.”

In response, al-Araji pledged to bring the perpetrators to justice but added that it is still too early to name suspects. He insisted that legal procedures must be followed and stressed that justice will be served.

Tensions between Erbil and Baghdad have grown over the lack of progress in preventing these air attacks. As the damage grows, so does frustration in the Region.
