The Iraqi government is preparing to release salaries for employees in the Kurdistan Region within days. The decision follows a cabinet meeting in Baghdad.
On Tuesday, April 7, 2026, Kurdistan24 correspondent Shvan Jabari reported that Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani instructed Finance Minister Taif Sami to begin the payment process. The directive came after discussions on financial coordination between Baghdad and Erbil.
According to the report, the salaries for the month of March will be transferred soon. Officials expect the funds to be released either on Thursday or early next week. This timeline depends on final administrative steps.
At the same time, Baghdad requested updated details about the Kurdistan Region’s internal revenues. Therefore, the Kurdistan Regional Government is expected to submit its financial data for the current month. This step is part of an ongoing review process.
A source from the Iraqi Council of Ministers confirmed that a formal request will be sent to Erbil. The request will focus on revenue reporting and financial transparency. Once the data is reviewed, the funds can be transferred without delay.
The salaries will be deposited into the Kurdistan Region government’s bank account in Erbil. After that, local authorities will begin distributing payments to employees.
This development comes amid continued efforts to resolve financial disputes between Baghdad and Erbil. In recent months, both sides have emphasized dialogue and coordination. As a result, there is cautious optimism that regular salary payments will continue.
The move signals progress in relations between the federal government and the Kurdistan Region. However, long-term solutions still depend on sustained cooperation and clear financial agreements.
