Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Interior Ministry rejected allegations that U.S. weapons were delivered to and stored inside its facilities in Erbil, calling the claims false and misleading.
In a statement issued Saturday, the ministry responded to comments made on Sulaimani-based Channel 8. A guest on the program had claimed that American weapons were handed over to the ministry and stored in a warehouse.
The ministry strongly denied the allegation. It said the statements were “baseless” and aimed at misleading public opinion. It also described the claims as fabricated.
In addition, the ministry accused those behind the remarks of spreading misinformation. It said they were trying to divert attention away from facts.
The Interior Ministry warned that legal measures would follow. It confirmed that it has already started legal proceedings against both the TV channel and the guest involved.
Officials said any party making such claims must present evidence in court. Otherwise, they will face legal consequences for spreading false information.
The ministry’s response comes amid continued sensitivity around security issues in Iraq. Arms distribution and control remain politically sensitive topics between Erbil and Baghdad.
The KRG maintains a security partnership with the United States as part of the international coalition against ISIS. Since 2014, U.S.-led support has included training, advisory missions, and military assistance.
However, there is no verified evidence that U.S. weapons are stored in Interior Ministry facilities, as claimed in the interview.
Authorities say the case highlights growing concerns over misinformation in media. Therefore, they stress the need for accuracy in public statements related to security matters.
