ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – The Kurdistan Region’s Counter Terrorism Directorate (CTD) announced that three bomb-laden drones were intercepted and destroyed over Erbil late Tuesday night.
According to an official statement, security forces detected the drones approaching the city and responded immediately. The Three drones were shot down at approximately 10:24 p.m., before they could reach their intended targets.
Officials said the successful interception prevented potential damage and casualties. Authorities did not disclose the exact locations the drones were heading toward.
The Erbil drones shot down incident comes amid a series of recent drone attacks targeting areas across the Kurdistan Region. These incidents have raised security concerns and prompted heightened alert among regional security forces.
Following the attack, security teams launched an investigation to determine the origin of the drones and identify the group responsible.
Authorities also reassured residents that security forces remain fully prepared to confront any threats. Meanwhile, officials emphasized that protecting civilians and critical infrastructure remains a top priority.
