Kurdistan Farmers to Receive Wheat Subsidy Payments Soon

Following the arrival of checks for eligible wheat farmers in Kurdistan provinces from Baghdad, banking procedures are now underway. Officials plan to begin distributing payments within the next four days.

At the start of the harvest season, farmers across Kurdistan delivered their wheat to silos. However, due to delays in the Ministry of Trade’s processing during autumn, many farmers have yet to receive their payments. Authorities decided to release the funds in stages to ensure proper management and accurate distribution.

Hemin Said Murad, director of Agriculture in Erbil, explained, “Once banking procedures are complete today, payments for eligible wheat farmers will start tomorrow. The funds will correspond to the amount of wheat they delivered.”

This year, the Kurdistan Region allocated a total of 310 to 315 billion IQD for wheat payments. In this first stage, 57 billion IQD has already been released, including 20 billion for Erbil, 25 billion for Sulaymaniyah and Halabja, and 12 billion for farmers in Dohuk.

The staged payment plan ensures transparency and fairness, while supporting farmers’ livelihoods and local agricultural productivity. Officials encourage farmers to follow updates from local agricultural offices and banks to receive their funds without delays.

The initiative reinforces Kurdistan’s commitment to sustaining its farming community and strengthening food security across the region, particularly for wheat producers who form a vital part of the local economy.
