Prime Minister congratulated Ali al-Zaidi in a phone call Tuesday following his nomination to form a new federal government, while reaffirming the Kurdistan Regional Government’s support for resolving disputes through constitutional means.
In a statement posted on X, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani said he wished al-Zaidi success in forming a new cabinet and carrying out his responsibilities during a critical political period.
The prime minister said he expressed support for the success of the incoming federal cabinet and stressed the importance of addressing outstanding issues through commitment to the constitution and dialogue.
Barzani reaffirmed the Kurdistan Regional Government’s readiness to support efforts aimed at resolving long-standing challenges between Erbil and Baghdad on a constitutional basis.
He also voiced hope that the nomination would open a new chapter marked by stability, cooperation and political progress.
“We expressed our support for resolving all issues on the basis of the constitution,” Barzani said, adding he hoped the step would help begin “a new era of peace and stability.”
The call came after al-Zaidi emerged as the consensus nominee of the Coordination Framework and received a formal mandate to form the next federal government.
Observers view the conversation as an early signal of Erbil’s willingness to engage with the incoming administration on unresolved political and financial files.
The exchange also underscored Kurdistan’s emphasis on dialogue and constitutional partnership in managing relations with Baghdad.
Officials say expectations are growing that government formation talks could shape a new phase in federal-regional relations, particularly on disputed issues tied to governance, budget arrangements and broader political coordination.
Barzani’s outreach reflected a broader message of support for political stability, while signaling Kurdistan’s interest in constructive engagement with the next federal cabinet.
