President Barzani Praises Landmark Armenia-Azerbaijan Peace Accord

President Nechirvan Barzani of the Kurdistan Region welcomed the historic peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan. He praised the United States and President Donald Trump for mediating the deal, which aims to end decades of conflict in the Caucasus.

In a message on social media, President Barzani congratulated both nations for taking this decisive step toward lasting peace. He also commended the U.S. president for his personal role in making the agreement possible.

The signing ceremony took place at the White House, where Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev formalized the accord. The event marked a rare breakthrough after more than 35 years of hostilities that caused deep suffering for both sides.

President Trump described the agreement as a commitment to halt fighting permanently, open trade routes, and establish diplomatic relations. A key feature of the deal is the creation of a “Trump route” transit corridor, giving Azerbaijan direct access to Nakhchivan while fully respecting Armenia’s sovereignty.

The United States will help develop the corridor in partnership with Armenia, potentially for up to 99 years. Trump emphasized that American companies will play a major role in building the needed infrastructure.

Both leaders from the Caucasus expressed gratitude to the United States. President Aliyev celebrated the lifting of decades-old defense restrictions, while Prime Minister Pashinyan called the U.S.-backed corridor a major boost for regional prosperity.

This agreement signals a new era of cooperation, trade, and stability for Armenia and Azerbaijan, with Washington committed to supporting its implementation.
