The strategic water project in Akre is moving forward quickly. Officials confirmed that the work has now reached 62% completion. This large-scale initiative will carry water from the Great Zey River to the center of Akre and nearby villages. The project aims to fully solve the water shortage problem for the next 25 years.
Funded with 109 billion dinars, the plan will pump about 72,000 cubic meters of water every day. This water will reach the district center, the Bajil sub-district with its 19 villages, and 21 other nearby villages. As a result, thousands of residents will have access to clean and reliable water.
Project manager Hawar Mohammed explained that the target date for completion is November 2026. He highlighted that strong support from local authorities is speeding up progress. He also stated that the project will provide direct water delivery to homes, which will improve daily life and reduce water-related challenges.
Zrar Ahmed, head of the Akre Water Office, stressed the importance of this work for both residents and farmers. With regular water access, agricultural activities will expand, and living standards will rise.
This effort reflects the regional government’s ongoing focus on improving essential services. Moreover, it shows a clear commitment to boosting infrastructure in rural and remote parts of Kurdistan.
